[Adelaide, SA] Monday 29 June – Silentium Defence, a leading developer of passive radar technology, has announced it has surpassed 100 employees and is targeting further significant workforce growth over the next 12 months.
The milestone contributes to South Australia’s rapidly growing defence sector, which employs more than 14,000 people, with thousands more roles forecast over the next decade as the state builds its submarine and shipbuilding programs*.

Silentium Defence’s MAVERICK and OMNIGUARD passive radar systems detect and track objects of interest across all domains – sea, land, air, and space – while maintaining a significantly lower electromagnetic signature than active radar systems. This reduces the risk of detection, location, or targeting by adversaries, and negates the need for a spectrum license. Demand for Silentium’s passive radar technology is accelerating across areas including counter-drone operations, integrated air and missile defence, and space domain awareness, both in Australia and key allied markets, including the United States.
Global CEO of Silentium Defence, Dr James Palmer, said, “I am immensely proud of our Silentium team and culture, which are integral to our success. Surpassing 100 employees is a significant milestone for us, and we are excited to continue investing in and expanding our team to meet the increasing demand from our domestic and international customers.”
Silentium Defence is actively recruiting across a variety of engineering, product and program management, and corporate functions to support its next phase of growth, with opportunities based in South Australia and internationally.
Minister for Defence and Space Industries Chris Picton said, “South Australia’s defence industry generates more than $2 billion in economic activity every year, with companies like Silentium Defence creating more opportunities for engineers and technology specialists in our state. I would like to congratulate Silentium Defence on its growth and look forward to seeing how the company can further boost our sovereign capability with its passive radar systems.”
Silentium Defence has also strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Matthew Ratnesar as Chief Executive Officer, to lead its U.S. expansion, and Sam Macmillan as Chief Financial Officer. Co-founder Simon Palumbo recently returned from the U.S. to lead the expansion of the company into allied markets.
