[Adelaide, SA] Thursday 28 May – Silentium Defence has appointed Sam Macmillan as Chief Financial Officer as the company continues to expand across allied defence markets and scale deployment of its passive radar capability globally.
The appointment comes during a period of rapid growth for the defence technology company, which recently surpassed 100 employees as it continues to expand its presence across the United States and globally in response to increasing demand for advanced sensing capabilities.
Sam joined Silentium Defence to lead the company’s finance and corporate services as it accelerates its international expansion.
A Chartered Accountant with more than 20 years’ experience across defence and infrastructure organisations, Sam previously served as CFO at Raytheon Australia, where he oversaw financial strategy and operations and as Chief Operating Officer at Scotch College Adelaide, leading the school’s corporate and strategic functions.
Dr James Palmer, Global CEO of Silentium Defence, said the appointment reflects the company’s continued evolution as it scales globally and responds to increasing international demand for passive radar capability.
“As allied defence forces place greater emphasis on survivability, resilience, and spectrum agility, there is growing demand for sensing technologies that operate effectively in complex and contested environments,” James said.
“Silentium Defence is entering a significant phase of international growth, and Sam’s role is critical to supporting that trajectory. He brings deep experience leading organisations through growth, transformation, and operational scale, and his leadership will be important as we continue to expand across allied markets and deliver capability to customers globally.”
Sam said Silentium Defence is well positioned to support evolving defence requirements through its unique passive radar capability.
“Defence customers are increasingly seeking technologies that deliver persistent situational awareness while reducing system detectability and operating effectively in contested environments,” Sam said.
“Silentium Defence has demonstrated its highly differentiated passive radar capability backed by strong technical expertise, clear product vision, and growing international momentum. It’s an exciting time to join the business, and I’m looking forward to supporting its next phase of growth and global expansion.”
Since commercialising sovereign Australian defence research in 2017, Silentium Defence has rapidly evolved into a global passive radar company and Sam’s appointment further strengthens the company’s corporate capability as it continues to scale its international operations.
